Royal St. George's The Open Championship 2011 |
Massive crowds and gusty winds greeted us today at the Open Championship in St. George's! There's a lot of excitement and much to look forward to in the next few days. It really could be anyone's game.
|
Rory McIlroy
|
All eyes are of course on Rory McIlroy. After the US Open, one could sense that bit of swagger about him. A confidence that i hope will be sustained until Sunday. There is much more pressure on Rory and while he finished at 1 over par today, he still is very much in the running.
|
Louis Oosthuizen, Darren Clarke |
Then there's reigning Open Champion Louis Oosthuien. His victory last year was not quite expected and he has had a difficult year. However at the Congressional Louis showed some brilliant golf. So you never know....
Other favorites who are being eyed to challenge Rory include world's No.1 Luke Donald. His dramatic win at Wentworth last May against Lee Westwood might just be repeated. It was crazy that he almost did not make it on time for his game today as he had forgotten to bring his players pass and security did not want to let him in. Unbelievable!

Luke Donald |
|
Lee Westwood |
Meanwhile Lee Westwood has had five top-threes in his last seven majors. Who knows? This Open Championship might just be the one. He finished at 1 over par today and had a rusty start with 3 bogeys alone in the front nine.
|
Adam Scott |
If there was a golfing God, (unfortunately there is none...) Adam Scott... who showed that he could have been the first Australian to win the 2011 Masters might just have a chance at the claret finishing at one under par today.
|
Adam Scott |
I still can't get used to him with that putter though.
|
Steve Williams |
Plus you know Tiger Woods is nowhere to be found when Steve Williams is caddying for Adam.
Some favorites inclue Angel Jimenez at -4, Grame McDowell -2
|
Grame Mcdowell |
and Segio Garcia.
|
Sergio Garcia |
Yes it could be anyone's game.

Wow Monique, I would have loved to join you but there's much work to do in Manila, hehe. I like your blog, and the photos with those golf icons, wow again! Dad

Luke was my personal favorite, just love his smooth wing style........ but yes who knows who will be the champ this time ! Great Photos. Wish we were there idol.
@ESP Lietz- There's still the weekend. Alika na!
@ Anli and Eleanor - It was so painful to watch Luke today. He just unraveled at the back 9. The winds in the afternoon were gutsy and just didn't help... Let's watch again next year :-)
